Abstract:
The purposes of this research were to study the correlations between leadership styles and conflict management styles in various conflict situations and the predictions of conflict management styles by assessing the full range leadership model (FRLM). Two hundred and seventy four commissioned officers from 13 Metropolitan Police Stations were asked to answer a questionnaire to assess each individuals leadership styles based on the FRLM construct of Bass (1985). Participants were given 8 conflict scenarios, one hundred and fifty words length and 2 scenarios per level. There were 4 levels of conflict situations; conflict with their superiors, conflict with their subordinates, conflict with peers, and conflict between the police and citizens. Each scenario was accompanied by sentences to show each conflict management style. The results are as follow: In different conflict situations, participants choose different ways to manage each conflict situation and the full range leadership model (FRLM) can predict conflict management styles.
