Abstract:
The purposes of this research were to determine cardiac rehabilitation participation rate among women with cardiovascular disease, to examine the relationship between age, severity of disease, anxiety, perceived risks, social support and cardiac rehabilitation participation, and to determine abilities of age, severity of disease, anxiety, perceived risks and social support in predicting cardiac rehabilitation participation. Study sample consisted of 110 women with cardiovascular disease and received a follow up appointment at Chest Disease Institute. Systematic random sampling technique was used to recruited subjects for this study. Data collection instruments were demographic data sheet, severity of disease scale, anxiety scale, perceived risks scale, social support scale, and cardiac rehabilitation participation record. The internal consistencies of the four scales were established. Cronbachs alpha coefficients were between .72 and .92. Statistical techniques used for data analysis were frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, Phi coefficient, Point-Biserial Correlation and Logistic Regression. Major finding were as follows: 1. Cardiac rehabilitation participation rate among women with cardiovascular disease was 88.24 %. 2. Anxiety, perceived risks, and social support were significantly positively correlated with cardiac rehabilitation participation (rpb = .22, .22 and .46, respectively, p < .05). Age and severity of disease were not correlated with cardiac rehabilitation participation (p>.05). 3. Age, severity of disease, anxiety, perceived risks, social support were able to predict cardiac rehabilitation participation among women with cardiovascular disease with a total correct percentage =89.10.
