Abstract:
The purposes of the research were of three folds 1) to study Emotional
Quotient (EQ) 2) to study burnout and 3) to investigate the correlation between EQ and
burnout of the officers at the Office of The Permanent Secretary for Defence. The
participants were 330 officers from 6 units of the Office of The Permanent Secretary for
Defence, Ministry of Defence. The 3 sections of questionnaire that used in this research
were measured : the personal data, the EQ and the burnout. The reliability of the EQ
was .92 that reliability range .75 -.88. The reliability of the burnout was 0.85 that
reliability range .57 80. The statistics used were mean, standard deviation, t-test,
F-test and Pearsons Product Moment Correlation Coefficient.
The results indicated that the level of EQ and burnout of the officer at the Office
of The Permanent Secretary for Defence were normal and moderate respectively.
The officers with different age and rank had statistically significant difference EQ
(p=.05). The officers with different age, marital status and rank had statistically
significant different burnout (p = .05). There was a negative relationship between EQ
and burnout (p=.01).
