Abstract: This study investigates the needs and problems of English language for use in the hotel business at Phuket Grace Land Resort and Spa to provide a basic information as a guideline for assessing content, method and duration of English training course on specific English skills using in the routine job for the employees of Phuket Grace Land Resort and Spa. The total 60 subjects were sampled from the employees of 8 departments. The study was conducted during the academic year of 2004. Questionnaires were used as an instrument to collect data which were analyzed by SPSS to find percentage, means and standard deviation. The results reveal that: 1. Employees regard translation to be more slightly important than listening and speaking. According to their view, reading and writing are not needed to emphasize. They have an average level of problems in using English. 2. Employees require English training course focused on specific English for each department to improve their skills. Among the four skills, speaking is the most needed skill, followed by listening, reading and writing. They also suggested that after the training course there should be a test by native speakers from their own organization.

Abstract: การวิจัยนี้มีจุดประสงค์เพื่อหาความจำเป็นและปัญหาในการใช้ภาษาอังกฤษเพื่อการโรงแรม ณ โรงแรมภูเก็ต เกรส แลนด์ รีสอร์ท และสปา เพื่อนำมาเป็นแนวทางข้อมูลพื้นฐานในการจัดทำ หลักสูตร กิจกรรมการสอน และระยะเวลาของการจัดการเรียนเพื่อเป็นการฝึกภาษาอังกฤษ ใน หัวข้อทักษะการใช้ภาษาอังกฤษแบบเฉพาะทางที่ใช้ประจำในงานสำหรับพนักงานของโรงแรม ภูเก็ต เกรส แลนด์ รีสอร์ท และสปา ตัวอย่างประชากรที่ใช้ในการวิจัยครั้งนี้ รวมทั้งสิ้น 60 คนจาก ทั้ง 8 แผนก การวิจัยนี้ได้เก็บข้อมูลในระหว่างปีการศึกษา 2547 แบบสอบถามถูกนำมาเป็นเครื่องมือที่ใช้ในการเก็บข้อมูล และได้รับการวิเคราะห์โดยใช้ โปรแกรมสำเร็จรูปทางสถิติและงานวิจัยทางสังคมศาสตร์เพื่อหาค่า ร้อยละ ค่ามัชฌิมเลขคณิต และ ค่าเบี่ยงเบนมาตรฐาน ผลการวิจัยสรุปได้ดังนี้ 1. พนักงานเห็นความสำคัญของการแปลมากกกว่า ทักษะการฟัง และการพูดเพียง เล็กน้อย พนักงานมีความเห็นว่า ไม่มีความจำเป็นที่จะต้องเน้นทักษะการอ่าน และการเขียน และ มีปัญหาในการใช้ภาษาอังกฤษอยู่ในระดับปานกลาง 2. พนักงานมีความต้องการที่จะให้การเรียนเพื่อการฝึกภาษาอังกฤษเน้นทักษะเฉพาะทาง ของแต่ละแผนก เพื่อพัฒนาทักษะในการทำงาน ระหว่างทักษะทั้ง 4 ทักษะการพูดเป็นทักษะที่ ต้องการให้ได้รับการฝึกฝนมากที่สุด รองลงมาคือ ทักษะการฟัง การเขียน และการอ่าน พนักงานได้ แนะนำเพิ่มเติมว่า หลังจากได้รับการเรียนแล้ว ควรมีการทำแบบทดสอบหลังบทเรียน โดยทดสอบ จากพนักงานที่เป็นเจ้าของภาษาในองค์กรของตน
