Abstract:
The aim of the study was to determine socio-economic condition, community participation level and
factors relating to community participation in mangrove management in Bangtaboon Estuary Area,
Pechaburi Province. The data will be used for further planning and for promoting community
participation in sustainable mangrove management. Research tools and methods used in this
research were questionnaires, structured interviews, and non-participant observation. The samples
were heads of households, and the number of samples was 180. Percentage, mean, standard
deviation, t-test independent, analysis of variance, multiple regression, and descriptive analysis were
employed for data analysis.
The results of the study indicated that most respondents were general employees without subsidiary
occupation, and their annual income and expenditure ranged from 5,001 to 10,000 baht per month.
The size of land holding was 1-5 rai. Their social group involved being members of the community
fund organization. The study indicated that community participation in mangrove management at
Bangtaboon was at a rather low level. The 3 factors influencing the participation in mangrove
management were identified as: perception of global warming, behavior in reducing global warming
and duration of living in the community..
