Abstract:
This thesis is a qualitative study aiming to study the contents and presentation techniques of
political news through the mobile phone Short Message Service. The messages studies were
grouped into 10 categories. 1) Political content concerning works of the government; 2) Political
content concerning the work of semi-political organizations; 3) Political content concerning party
formation, and party policy, activities and movements; 4) Political content concerning changes in
government officers; 5) Political content concerning foreign politics; 6) Political content
concerning the work of independent organizations working under the constitution; 7) Political
content concerning the personal lives of politicians, ministers and senior government officers;
8) Political content concerning strikes, street protests and dispersal of protesters; 9) Political
content concerning opinions and attitudes towards the Government of citizens; 10) Other political
contents.
The presentation techniques were divided into 2 parts : 1) News structure; which is
comprised of six substructures who, what, where, when, why and how. The presentation factors
could include a range of these substructures and also deal with two news items in the one message
2) Alternative Language styles involving, The use of acronyms, English words, alternative names,
abbreviations, numbers, punctuation marks and spacing were used.
The researcher considers that mass media should be careful about the use of language to
prevent confusion through writing. In the meantime, news audiences should be wary of what they
read and should obtain news from other sources to make sure the news they receive is accurate
