Low back pain among prathom 4-6 students in Bangkoknoi district : prevalence and risk factors
Abstract:
The study aimed to determine the prevalence and risk factors for LBP in
Prathom 4-6 students in Bangkoknoi district. A total of 2,982 Prathom 4-6 students
studying in 17 mixed-gender government primary schools in Bangkoknoi district,
Bangkok were invited in the study to complete the Prevalence Questionnaire. A
total of 2,805 students met the inclusion criteria and they all completed and returned
the Prevalence Questionnaires. Additionally, two hundred students from 14 schools
were randomly selected to complete the Risk Factor Questionnaire and perform 13
physical measurements. The data on prevalence rates and risk factors for LBP were
analyzed. The results showed that the point, 1-week, 1-month, 1-year and lifetime
prevalence rates were 12.8%, 23.1%, 36.9%, 48.1% and 58.9%, respectively.
Moreover, LBP was found to be positively associated with sport participation in
leisure time, sitting on the floor while watching television, and having after-school
class 1 day/week. However, LBP was negatively associated with lying while
watching television, and having after-school classes 4 days/week. The results
suggest that the episodes of LBP reported in Prathom students require concern and
the prevention of LBP should be taken into account from an early age
