Web-based enterprise project management system : a case study of faculty of engineering Mahidol University
Abstract:
In large enterprises, effective project management requires good planning.
Enterprise-level planning is not limited to an individual process and resource planning
(i.e. personnel, time, and budget), but includes the coordination of all projects in the
same organization to achieve the ultimate business objective and goals. This implies
that all details of a plan must be well defined.
In many organizations, the current project management system is based on a
manual paper-based system. Plans and its documentation are typically documented
with an unstructured format. This actually has adverse effects on efficiency, in terms
of labor and time.
Therefore, this system development project proposed a system which will
replace the existing manual planning system. The study includes the details, the
analysis and design of web-based Enterprise Project Management System which were
tested with a real project plan from the information provided by the Faculty of
Engineering, Mahidol University. The system provides a way to enhance efficiency by
allowing recording, tracking and monitoring of projects (under individual supervision)
and helps the upper level management in making strategic decisions based on current
status of all project plans in the data collection of the system.
A relational database model was chosen for design and development. We used
My SQL as the database management system and the system was developed based on
PHP.
