Abstract:
The objective of this cross-sectional research was to study participation of
the aging in an elderly club that passed an evaluation on strengthen elderly club and
related factors. The subject were 350 elderly in Nakhonratchasima Province. The data
were collected by interview questionnaire June 15, 2006 to August 15, 2006 analyzed
by frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, Pearson product moment
correlation coefficient, and Stepwise multiple regression.
Results revealed that more than half of the elderly (57.1%) had a low level of
participation whereas 28.6% and 14.3% had participation at the medium level and low
level respectively. The factors that were statistically significantly related to
participation of elderly people in strengthen elderly club (p-value <0.05) were age,
income, perception of health condition, attitude toward the aging club, club
membership interest, establishment of elderly people in networks or supporting
agencies and social support. In addition, the club membership interests, level of
education, perception of health condition, age, social support and gender could
significantly predict participation of aging in the elderly club by 35.0% with the
highest predictive power of participation being in club membership interests
The study suggests that the Elderly Club committee should advertise club
membership interests widely and encourage more participation of community leaders.
