Factors affecting the attitudes toward alcohol drinking of royal Thai Air Force officers
Abstract:
This research is survey research with the objective to studying factors influencing attitudes towards alcohol drinking of a sample group of 400 Thai air force officers. The tools used were questionnaires. The data obtained were statistically analyzed by SPSS program. Percentage, Mean, Standard deviation, T-test, One-Way ANOVA, Chi-Square test, and Pearson product moment correlation were the methods used.
The result showed that 367 (91.7%) of the officers used to drink alcohol, and 75 percent were still drinkers. There was a moderate level in family relation and alcohol consumption behavior of parents and peers. Most had good knowledge, perception of dangers were influenced by the media about the subject, and also agreed that it was easy to find alcohol. Most considered that the rule banning alcohol sales to those under 18 was not strictly enforced enough. The factors related to attitude towards drinking alcohol were sex, marital status, drinking alcohol, family relationship, perennial drinking behavior, alcohol knowledge, and media influence.
The suggestion from this research is that the government must exact stricter policies and regulations by creating further controls on buying zones and buying times. The government also should increase taxes on alcoholic drinks, create a bad image of alcohol for drinkers, and make manufacturers have more social responsibility.
