Abstract:
This descriptive research assessed the level of performance role as to professional standard of nurses in PCUs, Pathumthani Province, and to find out the relationships between organization climate, and motivation factors based on Professional standard and Midwife Standard of the Thai Nurse Association. The study group comprised 80 professional nurses working in PCUs of Pathumthani province. Data were collected by using selfadministered questionnaires from 1st to 28th February, 2007. Percentage, mean, and standard deviation were applied to describe general data and Pearsons product moment correlation coefficient was used for hypothesis testing. The study results showed that the overall performance role as to professional standard of nurses in PCUs, Pathumthani Province, was at a high level. The organization climate was at a moderate level. And the overall motivation factor was at a high level. The analysis presented that the organization climate had positive relation and statistical significance to nurses performance role as to their professional standard (r = 0.384, p< 0.01). The motivation factor was positively related to performance role as professional standard of nurses in PCUs, Pathumthani Province (r = 0.24, p < 0.05). It is suggested that professional nurses in PCUs should set standard performance or working criteria as well as assess performance continuously. Stressing good organization climate is crucial to enhance role performance and to create wide visions, leadership, management and utilization of technology. Some research about developing nursing practice should be done. Public health and professional advancement of nursing occupation, further education, training and a tour of study, decentralization, equity and justice in the nursing administration system, professional standard for professional nurses in PCUs, and community participation on health promotion should be promoted.
