Land use planning for agricultural land and agrarian culture protection : a case study of Bang Len district, Nakornpathom province
Abstract:
This research is intended to develop sustainable agricultural land and
agrarian culture to blend with actual surrounding as well as solving problems in
agricultural land protection that had occurred in the past. The study was conducted
in Bang Len District, Nakornpathom province with the objective to analyze
association of factors relevant agricultural land and agrarian culture protection, to
develop spatial model in order to classify suitable level toward agricultural land and
agrarian culture protection and recommend guidelines for land use principle in each
level had been proposed. GIS was applied in the building of spatial model for data
analysis. Factors employed in the analysis were divided into 4 groups in
environment, economic and social, political and culture.
Research results revealed the land suitability levels toward Agricultural Land
and Agrarian Culture Protection of Bang Len District could be classified into 4
levels. Class 1 (Highest Suitability for Agricultural Land and Agrarian Culture
Protection) covered 58.97 square kilometers; that the land use was allowed for
agriculture only. Other activities were forbidden. Class 2 (High Suitability for
Agricultural Land and Agrarian Culture Protection) covered 33.6.26 square
kilometers; that could be used for agriculture and other activities without any effect
to agricultural land use. Class 3 (Moderate Suitability for Agricultural Land and
Agrarian Culture Protection) covered 172.69 square kilometers; that could be used
for agriculture and other activities if necessary. Finally, Class 4 (Low Suitability for
Agricultural Land and Agrarian Culture Protection) covered 172.69 square
kilometers; that could be used for agriculture and other activities as long as those
activities were done carefully with protection against soils erosion and deterioration.
As for community urban areas, they were allowed for all type of activities, but
should have the least effect towards agricultural land and Agrarian Culture
