Abstract:
The objectives of this thesis were 1) to study the parents behavior in
encouraging their kindergarteners to develop love-reading habit ; 2) to compare the
parents behavior in encouraging this love of reading according to different factors:
demographic, economic, social and psychological factors. Populations in this research
were parents of Kindergarten Year 1-2 in a public school in Nonthaburi Province. A
simple random sampling was used among 405 populations. Statistical applications
were frequency, percentage, standard deviation, t-test and F-test.
It was found that the parents behavior in encouraging a love of reading
habit with in kindergarteners was moderate. Examining each aspect, it was found that
the parents possessed behavior in encouraging love-reading habit of kindergarteners
in regards to providing knowledge, role model and environmental management were
at moderate level. It was also found that parents with different core occupation, family
financial status, education, knowledge resource, time spent for children, knowledge of
encouraging love-reading habit of kindergarteners, attitude of encouraging lovereading
habit of kindergarteners and activity participation organized by school had
different behavior in encouraging a love-reading habit of kindergarteners by a
statistical significance at 0.05 level. While parents with in their different nature of
family, number of nurtured children, had no different behavior in encouraging lovereading
habit of kindergarteners by statistical significance at 0.05 level.
Recommendations from this research were that parents participating in
activities organized by the school more strongly possessed behavior in encouraging
love-reading habit of kindergarteners. Therefore, the units involved, i.e. the Ministry
of Education should set policy to support schools to organize activities involving the
encouragement of the love reading habit by effectively cooperating with parents.
