Measures setting of floating market management for sustainable tourism : a case study of : Wat Lumpaya floating market Bang Lane district Nakhon Pathom province
Abstract:
The purpose of this research was to study the measures for Floating Market
Management and setting measures for the Wat Lumpaya Floating Market Management.
physical, economic and social surrounding environments as well as learning about the designs
and roles of community organizations, including operational threats and limitations and the
opinions of business entrepreneurs and tourists .In particular the research focused on the
research was conducted as qualitative and quantitative . Sample groups in the quantitative
research consisted of business entrepreneurs and tourists. Data was collected through
questionnaires. Qualitative research was done with the Wat Lumpaya Management
Committee through in-depth interviews.
The research results revealed that tourists were satisfied with the physical
environment and services at a moderate level of 53.7 percents and a low level of 59.2
percents, respectively. This research identified twelve measures for improvement as follows:
Physical Surrounding Measures, for example, Measures for managing access road to Floating
Market which should plan to set up signs to show direction to government agencies and tour
sites. Access road should enforce laws to restrict certain type of vehicles. Parking Lot
Management Measures required security guards and laws to enforce violators who destroyed
assets of Floating Market and tourists while Tourist Pier Management Measures should assign
maintenance officers and checking conditions of the pier and merchandising raft. Toilet
management measures should have regular cleaning staff as well as build in accordance with
Health Act of 1992. Merchandising Raft Management involved in the study of method to
build merchandising raft from Harbor Department and inspect rafts monthly as well as
making repair immediately when discovering damage and services measures, such as, boat
tours that training in safety must be provided for officers assigned to boat and raft. Garbage
Cans Management Measures should emphasize having lids for garbage cans and the design to
blend with surrounding environment. As for Store’s Foods quality measures, Health
Department must check for quality of foods from stores monthly. Goods classification
measures, should set up goods according to types of goods sold. For Security Guard
management Measures, there should be traffic officers assigned at entrance and exit of
parking lots. As for Tourist Information Center Measures, it is recommended that the center
should be located in easily found location and assigned permanent officers be assigned to stay
in the center during the Floating Market‘s operation. Floating Market Interpretation Signs
Management Measures suggest using signs that can be seen clearly and easily without
obstruction to walkway.
