The human resource development activities in successful private organizations
Abstract:
The objective of this survey research was to investigate human resource development activities and problems in organizing these activities of ten successful private organizations. The population was ten successful organizations according to the survey of Personnel Management Association of Thailand, with human resource development managers or concerned individuals providing the data which were collected by questionnaire and structured interview. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics and content analysis to obtain frequency and percentage.
The research results reveal that 100% of the organizations implemented training and development and career development activities, 90% coaching, the 5 S’s (a process of organizing a workplace so that working environment is good, and improving the quality to achieve customers’ satisfaction and organizational changes) and had developed a learning organization, 80% computer assisted instruction and total quality management and 10 % e-learning. The problems in organizing HRD activities included administrators, limited budget, personnel, lack of instructional skills of mentors and structure of overseas organizations.
It is recommended from this investigation that a selection guideline for mentors should be established and administrators should set a clear direction of activities. Moreover, HRD managers should explain to their administrators the worth and benefits of the activities. Finally, personnel should be encouraged to learn by themselves with the help of technology
