Factors related to self-care behaviors of middle-aged male teachers in Nakhonphanom province
Abstract:
This research studied factors related to self-care behaviors of middle-aged
male teachers. The sample consisted of 250 middle-aged male teachers aged between
40-59 years, living in Nakhonphanom province. A questionnaire was used for data
collection. Data were analysed using mean, percentage, Chi-square, Pearson’s Product
Moment Correlation Coefficient, and stepwise multiple regression analysis.
Results showed that most middle-aged male teachers had overall self-care
behaviors at a moderate level. In descending order, middle- aged male teachers had
self-care behaviors related to nutrition, risk- behaviors avoidance, stress mangement
exercise, participation in health care, annual physical examination activity, and rest
and sleep ( ⎯x = 4.08, 3.81, 3.71, 3.45, 2.89, 2.63 and 2.62, respectively). There were
significant relationships between self - care behaviors and perceived school health
promotion policy, environmental management in school, environmental management
in community, and social supports (p – value < 0.01) . The results also showed that
social supports could predict 33.7% of variance in self-care behaviors.
The results of this study will provide useful information for public health staff
to strengthen health education and motivate middle-aged male teachers to accurately
perceive their health problems and promote their health. These aims could be achieved
by arranging an appropriate envinronment in school with community and family
participation in the service.
