The quality of working life among the labor force in the agricultural sector
Abstract:
The study was explanatory research to investigate the quality of working
life and factors affecting quality of working life of labor force in the agricultural
sector in Wihandaeng district, Saraburi province. Samples were 180 labors both
male and female permanent workers in big orange farms. The tool for data
collection was a questionaire. Statistical analysis was completed using percentage,
mean, standard deviation, and Stepwise Multiple Regression Analysis.
The results showed that most labor forces had an overall level of quality
of working life that was moderate at 55.6% and that most of them had protection
in respect of employment conditions that was moderate at 72.2%, Fair treatment at
work was moderate at 80.6%, Involvement in decision process in the enterprise
was good at 43.9%, Challenging work capabilities was good at 56.1% and relations
between work and life cycle was good at 73.3%. The factors that significantly
affected the quality of working life , at <0.05 were work motivation, work duration,
work attachment and relations with colleagues. Those factors could explain quality
of working life of labor force at 50.6%.
This study indicated that Ministry of Labor should support the employer to
issue a written employment contract, give the chance to employees to improve their
working skill and revise welfare and protection of the agricultural labor to be close to
other kinds of labor. The employer should realize to increase appropiate wage, should
arrange standard safety equipment for employees and give them the opportunity to
show they opinion and use ability to make them proud. The employees shoud realize
their responsibility by working, having loyalty and should participate for their
usefulness benefit
