The application of self-efficacy theory to promote food consumption behavior among prathom V students in Ubon Ratchathani province
Abstract:
This research was a quasi-experimental design study, aiming to determine the
application of self -efficacy to promote consumption behavior among Prathom V
students in Ubon Rachathani province. The experimental group and the comparison
group comprised 44 cases each. The experiment was conducted from 20 January 2003
to 30 March 2003. The experimental group participated in the application of selfefficacy
theory. Data were collected by using a direct response questionnaire and
records kept by teacher , parents and themselves before and after the experiment.
Data analysis used the following statistic: frequency, percentage distribution, mean,
standard deviation, independent sample t-test and paired sample t-test.
After the experiment, it was found that the mean score for knowledge,
perceived self-efficacy, and outcome expectations and consumption behavior about
milk, vegetables, fruits and dry beans in the experimental group was statistically
significant higher than before experiment and also higher than the comparison group
after experiment (p-value < .001). The application of Self- efficacy theory can promote
the students to improve consumption behavior. The application of self- efficacy theory
should be applied for consumption behavior in other schools to help strengthening the
quality of life of Thai children as a whole.
