Abstract:
The purpose of this quasi-experimental research was to study the effect of
nutrition promoting program focusing on nutritional health promoting behaviors for
patients with chronic renal failure (CRF).
The study groups were chronic renal failure patients. These patients were
followed up at the renal clinic of Phramongutklao hospital. The study was done
between April 2002 to September 2003. Forty samples were recruited using
purposive sampling technique. They were divided into two groups: experimental
and control. There were 20 participants in each group. The control group received
conventional care while the experimental group received the nutritional promoting
program. The nutritional promoting program included promotion of knowledge and
modification factor that influencing on nutrition health promoting behaviors. Data
collection took place on the first and eighth week. The interviewing form was used
to ask about demographic factor, nutritional health promoting behaviors was used
to collect data. Data was analyzed by using inferential statistics for frequency,
percentage, mean, standard deviation, pair t-test and ANCOVA.
The result revealed that, in a comparison between group, nutritional health
promoting behaviors in the experimental groups were significantly better than
those in the control group (P< 0.01). After the intervention, nutritional health
promoting behaviors was significantly better than before (P< 0.01).
In conclusion, the nutritional promoting program proved to be effective in
improving nutritional health promoting behaviors in CRF patients. The researcher
suggests that the nutritional promoting program could be recommended to CRF
patients at early and intermediate stage. For further research, a long- term follow up
study at intervals such as six months or one year should be done in order to
evaluate the commitment to maintain nutritional health promoting behavior in CRF
patients
