The effects of mind-body promotion program on behavior changes and quality of life of menopausal women
Abstract:
This study was a quasi-experimental research with the objective to develop
mind-body promotion program using 6 dimensions of health promotion behavior
which were health responsibility, physical activity and exercise, nutrition, spiritual
growth, interpersonal relationship and stress management by applying self-efficacy
theory to conduct correct behavior. The program activities included the use of video,
case study, demonstration, practice, group process and stimulation. The researcher
studied the effectiveness of the program by a quasi-experimental research in one group
and assessed the results in 3 periods: pre-test, post- test and follow up periods. The
experimental group was menopausal women who attended menopause clinic in
Thong-en Public Health Station, Thong-en sub-district, Inburi district, Singburi
Province. Thirty menopausal women were simple randomly selected to be the
experimental group. The program was conducted in 9 weeks during March to May
2004. Data was collected by interviewing the subjects three times. The first was before
the intervention, the second was at the fifth week and the follow up period at the ninth
week of the program. The demographic data was examined using percentage, mean
and standard deviation. The difference of health promotion behavior’s mean score was
compared by using pair sample t-test. The relation was found by using Pearson’
Product Moment Correlation Coefficient.
The results indicated that in post- test and follow up periods, the mean score of
health promotion behavior showed statistically significant change(P<0.001). In posttest
and follow up periods, the quality of life for the mean score showed statistically
significant change(P<0.05).It was found that health promotion behavior was
significantly correlated to quality of life(P<0.05).These results showed that using
mind-body promotion program with 6 dimensions of health promotion behavior and
applying with self-efficacy theory could change health promotion behavior and
quality of life in a better way. Therefore, this program should be extensively applied
for menopausal women.
