Perception on patient's rights in the universal health coverage (30 baht) cardholders : a case study in general Hospitals in Ratchaburi province
Abstract:
This study is an analytical survey. Its objectives are to study the level of
perception on patient’s rights and to make a comparison with individual factors and
factors concerning knowledge and social network influencing the perception on
patient’s rights in the Universal Health Coverage (30 Baht) cardholders. The samples
were 400 patients who had the Universal Health Care Scheme Coverage (“30 Baht
cardholders”) and they visited the out patient department at Banpong Hospital
,Photharam Hospital and Damnoensaduak Hospital. Data were collected by
questionnaires from 27 January to 23 March ,2004. Statistical analysis used were
mean, percentage, standard deviation, t-test and one way ANOVA.
Results revealed that the samples (44.8%) had a middle level of perception on
patient’s rights suggesting that almost half of the studied patients had a common
opinion on patient right in moderate level, neither a high or low level of perception on
the subject concerned. When examing the relationships between the perception of
patient rights and individual characteristics, it is suggested that as individual
characteristics, including education, occupation and income as well as receiving
information, are improved the perception on patient right will also be upgraded. The
findings suggest that an improvement of individual attributes will increase the
knowledge of perception on rights of the patients.
