Abstract: วรรณกรรมเรื่องแฮร์รี่ พอตเตอร์ได้รับความนิยมเป็นอย่างมากไม่เพียงเฉพาะในหมู่เด็ก ๆ เท่านั้น แต่ยังได้รับความสนใจอย่างแพร่หลายในบรรดานักอ่านที่อยู่ในวัยผู้ใหญ่เช่นกัน ทั้งนี้เนื่องจากแฮร์รี่ พอตเตอร์มี เนื้อหาที่หลากหลาย และเต็มไปด้วยจินตนาการ จึงเป็นเรื่องที่น่าสนใจอย่างยิ่งในด้านกระบวนการถ่ายทอดทาง ภาษาจากภาษาต้นฉบับมาสู่ภาษาในฉบับแปล การศึกษาการปรับบทแปลเรื่องแฮร์รี่ พอตเตอร์ กับศิลาอาถรรพ์ และแฮร์รี่ พอตเตอร์กับห้องแห่งความลับที่แปลโดยสุมาลี บำ รุงสุข จากต้นฉบับภาษาอังกฤษเรื่องHarry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone และ Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets ที่เขียนโดย เจ. เค. โรว์ลิ่ง นี้มีวัตถุ ประสงค์เพื่อศึกษากลวิธีการปรับบทแปลรูปแบบต่าง ๆ ที่ผู้แปลใช้ในงานแปลเรื่องนี้ โดยเป็นการวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพ ผลการศึกษาพบว่ามีการใช้กลวิธีการปรับบทแปลในลักษณะต่าง ๆ ได้แก่ การแปลโดยเพิ่มความ (เพื่ออธิบายความที่อาจยากทั้งในด้านภาษาและวัฒนธรรมที่มีผลต่อความเข้าใจของผู้อ่าน โดยใช้การทำ เชิงอรรถ การเติมคำ อธิบาย การเพิ่มความเพื่อเพิ่มความชัดเจนของเนื้อเรื่อง) การปรับรูปประโยค (โดยการปรับวลีเป็น ประโยค และการปรับย่อหน้า) การใช้คำ ทับศัพท์ (การใช้คำ ทับศัพท์ตามความนิยม) การใช้คำ หรือสำ นวนตาม ลักษณะวัฒนธรรมภาษาไทย การใช้ภาษาที่ทำ ให้เกิดจินตนาการ (การใช้คำ ภาษาปาก การใช้คำ ซํ้า การใช้ภาษา พรรณนาความ การใช้ภาษาที่สื่อแสดงถึงความรู้สึก และการใช้คำ เลียนเสียงธรรมชาติ) จากการศึกษากลวิธีการปรับบทแปลในเรื่องแฮร์รี่ พอตเตอร์ ในรูปแบบต่าง ๆ นั้นพบว่าผู้แปลใช้ กลวีธีการปรับบทแปลต่างๆ เพื่อทำ ให้งานแปลเป็นผลงานที่เต็มไปด้วยจินตนาการ สนุกสนาน และสามารถสื่อ แสดงถึงอรรถรสของเรื่องที่ถูกถ่ายทอดมาจากต้นฉบับให้ได้ใกล้เคียงมากที่สุด

Abstract: The Harry Potter novels have become of great interest to children and adult readers worldwide because they are full of variety and imagination. That is why it is interesting to study the translation process. The objective of this research is to study the techniques of adjustment in translating “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” and “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets” into Thai by Sumalee Bumrungsook. The research method is qualitative. The study found several adjustment techniques used in these translations. These techniques included the addition of details (for the explanation of difficult words both in linguistic and cultural matters by using footnotes, explanatory words, and adding details to illustrate the story); adjusting sentence structures (changing phrases to sentences and dividing paragraphs); transliteration (transliteration of the words used in the popular way); the usage of words or phrases of Thai culture; and the usage of imaginative language( spoken language, reduplicatives, descriptive language, expressive language, and onomatopoeiaic language) As a result of applying these adjustment techniques, the Thai version of these Harry Potter novels retain the same feeling , imagination, and joyfulness as the original version.
