Information management system (sales, purchase and inventory) for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) : case study BTL Group Co., Ltd.
Abstract:
Small-and-medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are considered an active
mechanism in boosting the economy not only in Thailand but in all countries. SMEs
generally lack information on the technological capabilities available. The aim of this
thesis is to develop a database system for inventory management, advanced
purchasing, sales, accounts receivable and accounts payable for SMEs in order to
facilitate SMEs to operate their business transactions.
This system was designed to run on a Linux operating system which is a free
and open source. PHP script language was used to develop the system and MySQL for
database management. As for the hardware, it consisted of a server, client computer
and printer.
The development of the database system consisted of four stages: firstly the
preliminary investigation, secondly the system analysis and design, thirdly the system
development and finally the implementation. Information was sufficiently gathered
through interviews, observation, documentation and technical feasibility. This
information was an essential part in the analysis of the entire project. The workflow
and database was designed for convenience and suitability to the working
environment. Types of hardware and software were selected to ensure functionality at
the lowest cost. A questionnaire was used to evaluate the system as to whether it met
company needs and requirements, and most importantly, whether the company could
benefit from investment in the system.
In evaluating of the questionnaire results, it was indicated that the developed
database facilitated the users in operating their business transactions. So, the entire
system can allow SMEs to reduce their investment in setting up their IT infrastructure.
As for the daily operation, the benefits will be a reduction of human error, and
increased accessibility, convenience and effectiveness.
