The feasibility study of mixing marble powder in polyester resin
Abstract:
This is an inventive research. The purpose is to utilise waste, marble powder
instead of resin, find the highest ratio of powder which can substitute resin for molding,
and test mechanical properties; strength of tension, flexure and impact.
The research designation uses 2 sizes of powder: mesh 325 sieved and nonsieved
because the researcher wants to study the effect of particulates’size to mixing
and strength of molded resin, and then find the ratio of powder that resin can mold and
get 6 formulas. The mechanical properties and repetitions were tested 10 times. After
that, all data was taken to calculate K in order to get a comparison of any ratio with
100% resin and to calculate Pearson’s correlation coefficient.
The research found the increase of powder’s ratio will reduce tensile and
flexural strength, but add impact strength. The sifting powder gives higher test value
because small particulates include with resin better than big particulates.
The least ratio is resin 30:powder 70. If this formula is used, saving in cost
will be about 49 bahts per kilogram.
