Design and development of program for voice qualty testing via telephone network
Abstract:
In the information age, the way people and organizations communicate has
rapidly changed. At present not only traditional voice but also an enormous amount
of data is transmitted through the telephone line. Many of these changes spring from
the explosive growth of the Internet and from applications based on the Internet
Protocol (IP). Currently, the Internet is a ubiquitous means of communications. A
large amount of data traffic is exchanged across the globe. The main factor in the
quality of service is the performance of the telephone line. The quality of telephone
services may be determined by customers or the service providers. Testing
instruments, for instance line testers and voice quality testers are necessary for
quality monitoring and control.
The purpose of this research is to design and develop the prototype of a
program for voice quality testing via telephone line. This research starts from
studying and analyzing the existing system. Then information concerning telephone
line performance and programs was gathered and the design process was performed.
The design is derived from the customer’s requirements. These requirements are
easily found in the market. Finally, voice quality testing via telephone line
instrument and testing process were developed using Microsoft Visual Basic.
This prototype of voice quality tester is able to measure the quality of the
telephone line to transfer voice signal. The system allows customers to test whether
they receive a high quality of service. Additionally, telephone service providers are
able to adopt this system to measure the line quality in order to maintain high service
quality to their customers
