Occupational health, safety and environment related behavior among the employee : a case study of the healthy workplace projcet in Bangpoo Industrial Estate
Abstract:
The main objective of this survey research was to study the behavior on occupational health,
safety and environment among employees in Bangpoo Industrial Estate: a case study of the Healthy
Workplace Project as well as the factors relating to employees’ behavior and the studied variables.
Among the research instruments was a questionnaire form, 374 forms distributed to the sample group
employees, of which 330 forms were completed correctly. An indepth interview was also conducted
with the management of the three sampled plants and an observation form was also used to observe
occupational health, safety and environment of the sampled plants. The statistical method for data
analysis was percentage value, maximum value, minimum value, standard deviation value and Chi-
Square Test. The results were as follows:
1. The employees in the sample group showed that their behavior on occupational health,
safety and environment depends on the marital status, working hours, the acknowledgement of
information regarding the Healthy Workplace Project, the praise from boss and colleagues, the
employees acceptance of the plant’s safety rules and the awareness of the problems within the area
surrounding the plant, at a statistical significance level of 0.05. Hence, such behavior does not depend
on age, sex, educational degree, working status, position, working life, the level of
employees’cooperation by wearing personal protective equipment and the satisfaction concerning the
plant’s caring and promotion of issues on occupational health, safety and environment at a statistical
significance level of 0.05.
2. The majority of the employees in the sample group, as high as 249 or 75.5%, were at a
low to an average level on the issue of knowledge and comprehension of occupational health, safety
and environment. Meanwhile, 170 employees or 51.5% show their behavior on occupational health,
safety and environment to be at a high level.
3. The level of knowledge and comprehension on occupational health, safety and
environment of employees in the sample group relates to their behavior on occupational health, safety
and environment at a statistical significance level of 0.05.
The recommendation, based on this research, is that there should be an employee training as
well as continuous promotion to extend the basic knowledge on occupational health, safety and
environment more widely thus promoting the Healthy Workplace Project. Also, a recommendation for
future research includes a study on behavior related to occupational health, safety and environment
among employees working in Bangpoo Industrial Estate in order to compare participating and nonparticipating
plants in the Healthy Workplace Project
