Abstract:
Human health seeking behavior not only affects health situation directly, but also is influenced by multiple factors. The investigation of health seeking behavior helps the design of policies, assists in the monitoring and evaluation of health care reform , and supports the achievement of national health care objectives. Using the baseline survey of 2001 in Kanchanaburi, a study aiming to Explore demographic, social-economic and illness treatment factors influencing on peoples health seeking behavior was carried out. Three methods were used to analyze the relationships: univariate analysis, bivariate analysis, and multinomial logistic regression. The study reveals that going to public hospital is the prefered way that people choose to deal with their illness. Age and gender are very important factors affecting peoples health seeking behavior Marriage influences peoples health seeking behavior slightly. Education has a positive effect on the use of hospitals. The effects of income, occupation and strata on peoples health seeking behavior are significant. Reason for treatment and decisison-making are two
illness treatment factors that have a strong relationship with health seeking behavior. It is recommended for policy-makers to arrange different health programs for different population segments, and improve effectiveness and efficiency of the health service organization and the health delivery system, especially in the primary health service system.Meanwhile, a more comprehensive investigation of health seeking behavior behavior on peoples health situation is suggested for further research.
