Factors affecting drug use (amphetamines) among drug offenders from the fishery occupation in Samutsakorn prison
Abstract:
This study investigates factors affecting drug use (amphetamines) among male
inmates form the fishery occupation and seeks viable approaches to address the
prevention and correction of narcotic problems among male inmates.
187 male inmates confined in Samutsakorn prison who worked in fishery and had
violated the Narcotics Acts were sampled. Questionnaire was the instrument used in data
collection, and the statistical applications were percentage, mean, standard deviation,
ANOVA (Analysis of Variance), and MCA (Multiple Classification Analysis). Findings
were as follows:
It was found that the samples were 26-30 years of age, had earned a primary
education, and were single with moderate wealth .
Factors affecting drug use (yaba) were : curiosity for experimenting, residing
among yaba users, ignorance, and inducements to use, such as to become more active, to
stay awake, and to be more productive after using.
It is recommended that there should be laws related to different workforces and
that work permits should be required. There should be laws to control entrepreneurs who
employ workforces and narcotics should not be used among employees. Officers working
in narcotics suppression should seek more constructive approaches to handle narcotics
prevention and suppression.
