Abstract:
This qualitative research purposed to study history and local cultural society in
Makhamlom village to create the guidelines for forming a community museum. Oral histories
were the main resource for the museum. Then seminars were held with the villagers’ group
leaders to share ideas on how to build a community museum and to find someone to lead the project.
The focus group was for initiating group collaboration on the creation, maintenance and management
of the museum.
From the research, cooperation of local people is an essential requirement for creation
of this community museum. The work groups are the sub-district organization officials’,
Kamans’, local teachers’, local philosophers’, the people and the youth. The groups that are
doing most of the work on this project are the sub-district organization and the Council of
Cultural Affair of amphur Bang Pla-ma, as almost all of the budget of the foundation and
maintenance is provided by them while some of the funds are from donations. The stories
presented in the exhibition are…1) History of the village.2) Local cultural society. 3) Villagers’ way
of life. 4) Local wisdom. 5) Honorable men of Makhamlom village. 6) Makhamlom village’s
development and alteration. Each subject will be exhibited using local materials and cultural
objects collected since the year 2530 B.E. The former office of the sub-district organization
approved the decision to adapt a pre-existing building as the exhibition structure. The
estimates and administrative rules of the museum will be set by the sub-district organization
for introducing the youth to the idea of preserving Phaun’s culture. It’s possible they will
set a committee from the local unit to supervise the museum’s activities.
