The study of opinions of police officers towards the performance under the structure of Metropolitan Police Station
Abstract:
This study on the opinions of police officers towards performance under
the present structure of metropolitan police stations was conducted with a
questionnaire. The data were collected from 350 police officers in the metropolitan
police stations. The SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Science) program was
utilized to present the data in frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation and
Chi-square, in order to investigate the relationship between the independent and
dependent variables.
It was found that most of the police officers in the metropolitan police
stations are at a moderate level of opinion towards the performance under the
structure of the metropolitan police stations. It was also discovered that personal
factors i.e. age, bureaucracy duration, educational level, operational duration, title,
position, responsibility and income, relate to the opinions on operation with a
statistical significance at the 0.05 level.
The results of the study suggest that there should be an improvement in the
structure of the metropolitan police stations with a reduction in the chain of
command and process so that (there can be a greater operation agility appropriate to
the work.) The decision and command authority should be devolved to the
inspectors. The budget, office, fringe benefits, salary, compensation, equipment,
number of personnel, appropriateness to work, promotion, rules and regulations
should be improved. A plan for saving the resources use in an investigation and
improving the co-operation should be conducted. Finally, there should be quality
improvement among the personnel through training programs together with an
improvement of the structure in order to increase operational efficiency.
