A study of health care behavior status after introduction of the nutrition and exercise program
Abstract:
This quasi-experimental research aimed to assess a nutrition and exercise program on health care behavior status in a group of hyperlipidemia employees. The intervention program was carried out among the 40 employees who worked in a chemical factory at Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate, Mueang, Rayong. The hyperlipidemia subjects who had more than 200 mg/dl of cholesterol and/or low density lipoprotein over 130 mg/dl. They were older than 35 years. The program was evaluated before and after the experiment and there was no control group. For 12 weeks, the subjects were introduced to a designed nutrition and exercise program as an intervention program. Data were collected using a questionnaire before and after the experiment and statistically analyzed by a computer program. It was found that 55 percent of the employees who participated in the intervention program were alcohol drinkers and 45 percent was non- alcohol drinkers. The results revealed that after the intervention program, the subjects adopted more positive behavior towards in nutrition and exercise. After the experiment, there was no significant change in blood pressure, body mass index (BMI) and low density lipoprotein (LDL) level. For the alcohol drinkers, the cholesterol level was higher than before the intervention program. It was found that 44.4 percent of non-alcohol drinkers showed a reduction in the cholesterol level after the invention program. The results demonstrated that the nutrition and exercise program could beneficially affect proper nutrition and exercise, and improve the health of employees with hyperlipidemia. The study found that other factors such as alcohol consumption affected the cholesterol level. Therefore, this program should be considered for other employees or other companies in the future."
