Business process development using information systems for less-computerize skill office case study : IMEX Express Co., Ltd.
Abstract:
Imex Express Company Limited is a one person customs clearance company. It wishes to reduce the working time for 80 jobs a month from 14 hours to 8 hours per day. The elderly owner and sole employee of the company has never used computers before but now wishes to implement a computer management system.
Using Single Development Life Cycle (SDLC), existing computer expertise and the business process were assessed. This information was analyzed to design an appropriate training program and selected an appropriate computer system. The analysis and design were tested using MS Word electronic form for the sales process, Appnets, and also a tailor made program, for the customs process, and MS Excel electronic form for the accounting process.
The user was able to master the recommended system for the sales process and accounting process but was unable to master and rejected the Appnets program. The working time was reduced by 32% to 9.5 hours per day after the new system was launched. Although this was less than the target, the cost of implementing the new system was less than employing additional staff.
Upon further analysis and recommendation, an additional staff member was employed to operate the Appnets program. Working time was reduced to 7.5 hours per day and the target was thus exceeded.
This project demonstrate the important of certain factors in troducing a computerized management system into nin-computerized literate work place environment.These factors included: a positive attitude, appropriate training, sufficient training time, preserving sequence used in the manaul system, easily response to origin included reproduce to nearest with original document. This project has demonstrate that the propproly managed introduction of computerization can successfully enchance the capability abd productively of an organization.
