Abstract:
This study was a cross-sectional survey research aiming to study factors related to food consumption and exercise behavior among personnel at the Faculty of Medicine in Ramathibodi Hospital. Penders Health Promotion Model was applied to determine, cognitive-perceptual factors, modifying factors and cues to action. Four hundred samples were selected by a stratified random sampling technique and systematic random sampling. Data were collected through the use of a self-administered questionnaire. Statistical analysis was performed by using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test, F-test and Pearsons Product Moment Correlation Coefficient. The results showed that 64.0 percent of the personnel had a lower level of food consumption and exercise behavior. Cognitive-perceptual factors related to food consumption and exercise behavior were: health promotion value, perceived self efficacy, perceived health status and perceived barriers towards performing health behavior (P-value<0.01). A modifying factors related to food consumption and exercise behavior was age (P-value<0.01). Their level of health information access affected decisions related to food consumption and exercise behavior (P-value <0.01). Perceived selfefficacy was the most important variable related to food consumption and exercise behavior. The results of this study suggested that self efficacy should be emphasized in the implementation of a health promotion program for personnel at the Faculty of Medicine in Ramathibodi Hospital.
