Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to create innovative teaching program and develop the consistency of the course content from the first up to the last chapter of the course. It also aims instructional activities to correspond to the syllabus of the course So that students can apply knowledge and experiences they have acquired to real situation successfully. In addition, the study also focuses on the comparison of students knowledge and understanding towards the syllabus prior to and after the teaching. The subjects consisted of the 110 second and the third year students of Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Industry who registered in the course: Tour Guiding at Rangsit University and 165 students of both public and private universities. Based on pre-test post-test design, the instrument used in this study was the comprehension test and attitude questionnaire. The data were analyzed by mean, standard deviation, one sample t-test and paired t-test through SPSS Statistical Packages for Window.
The results of this study showed that:
1.The comparison before and after studying and teaching of the course, suggested that 110 Students of Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Industry, Rangsit University. 70 Students of Faculty of Management Science, Silpakorn University Information Technology Petchaburi Campus, 30 Students of Faculty of Social science, Srinakarinwirot University Prasarnmit, 25 Students of Faculty of Management Science, Rachabhat Kanchanaburi University, and 40 Students of Faculty of Social Science, Sripatum University. Had higher achievement scores at statistically significant level of 0.05.
2.The 100 Rangsit students, 30 Srinakarinwirot students, and 40 Sripatum students were very satisfied with the instruction of the course, with the mean scores of 4.18, 4.15 and 4.07 respectively. The 70 Silpakorn students and 25 Rachabhat Kanchanaburi students were moderately satisfied, with the mean scores of 3.96 and 3.76 respectively.
3.This research can be concluded that content of the Tour Guiding course of the Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality, Rangsit University is complete and up to the standard. It is recommended that exercises (or quizzes) at the end of each chapters should be added in order to evaluate students knowledge and to prepare them to be ready for the examinations. In addition, it is suggested that some course content should be more flexible in teaching and learning to help students to gain more understanding. Moreover, it is suitable to develop the course content to be more innovative by adding more case studies for students to practice. Last but not least, it is suggested that the overall classroom environment should be improved to make it clean, tidy, and equipped with effective instructional equipment.
