Abstract:
The purposes of this thesis were to study the competencies in the lower secondary school science teachers Yasothon province on science knowledge, science skill process, science teaching, and science attitude and to compare the competencies between science teachers in the extended primary schools and the lower secondary schools. The samples were 132 science teachers of the lower secondary the General Education Department schools in 2001 academic year. The instrument used for gathering data was questionnaires which consisted of two parts : a checklist part on personal data and a rating scale concerning 4 parts of science competencies : science knowledge; science skill process; science teaching; and science attitude. The reliability of the instrument was which composed 0.97 of the reliability in science knowledge, science skill process, science teaching, and science attitude were 0.90, 0.95, 0.96 and 0.87. The results were summarized as follows : 1. Science teacher competencies of the lower secondary schools in Yasothon province had all science competencies at high levels. 2. The overall science teachers competencies of the lower secondary schools and the extended primary schools were not statistical significant different, but science knowledge of the lower secondary schools were higher than the extended primary schools whereas the competencies of science skill process, science teaching, and science attitude was not statistical significant different.
