Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to examine factors related to compliance with prescribed regimens of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in the community. The sample consisted of 130 patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease from Ratchasarn Hospital, Bangkhla Hospital, and Plaengyao Hoaspital, Chachoengsao Province. The instruments used in the study were demographic data sheet, recommended sick role behavior questionnaire and sick role behavior questionnaire. Cronbach, s alpha coefficient of the instruments were .96 and .71 The findings revealed that: 1. Compliance with prescribed regimens of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in the community rated at a good level. 2. Health motivations, perceived susceptibility, perceived severity, perceived benefits were significantly related to compliance with prescribed regimens of drugs, eating, exercise, follow up, and risk v\behaviors (p < .05), but perceived susceptibility and perceived benefits were not significantly related to compliance with prescribed regimens of drugs (p < .05). 3. Cost and treatment duration were not significantly related to compliance with prescribed regimens of drugs, eating, exercise, follow up, and risk behaviors (p < .05). 4. Relationship between health care provider and patients was significantly related to compliance with prescribed regimens of eating, exercise, follow up, and risk behaviors (p < .05), but relationship between health care provider and patients was not significantly related to compliance with prescribed regimens of drugs (p < .05). 5. Follow up treatment in hospital was significantly related to compliance with prescribed regimens of risk behaviors (p < .05), but follow up treatment in hospital was not significantly related to compliance with prescribed regimens of drugs, eating, exercise, and follow up(p < .05).
