Abstract:
The purpose of this research was to study factors predicting nursing practice following the clinical nursing practice guideline for urinary catheterized patients at Sawanpracharak hospital, Nakornsawan province. The samples consisted of 172 registered nurses. The data was collected from November 21, 2006 to December 21, 2006 using self-administered questionniaires. The instrument consisted of the characteristics of the clinical nursing practice guideline questionnaires, nursing practice competencies scale, attitude toward the clinical nursing practice guideline questionnaire and organizational support questionnaire. Data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation and Stepwise multiple regression.The findings showed that the characteristics of the clinical nursing practice guideline, years of experience, nursing practice competencies, attitude toward the clinical nursing practice guideline and organizational support were found to be statistically significant and positively related to nursing practice following the clinical nursing practice guideline ( r= 0.28, 0.26, 0.25, 0.33, 0.35 respectively, p< .05). The results also revealed that organizational support, years of experience and attitude toward the clinical nursing practice guideline significant predicted nursing practice following the clinical nursing practice guideline at level of .01. The predicting power was 20 percentsThe findings suggested that implementing of the clinical nursing practice guideline should consider those factors. Therefore, nurse administrators provide opportunities for nurses to enhance their competencies and positive attitude toward the clinical nursing practice guideline. Nurses should realize the need to develop competencies, positive attitude and follow the clinical nursing practice guideline for urinary catheterized patients.
