Abstract:
The purpose of this research was to identify the extent of self concept and life style satisfaction among ischemic heart patients in the eastern seaboard area of Thailand, to compare the life style satisfaction of the patients who had different background and to determine the relationship between self concept and life style satisfaction.The subjects for the study consisted of ischemic heart patients who attended 4 hospitals in the eastern seaboard area. Data were collected on personal background, life style satisfaction and self concept by means of a questionnaire, which was used to interview 100 patients.Findings were :1. Ischemic heart patients in the eastern seaboard area generally satisfied with their life style and self concept.2. There was no significant difference in life style satisfaction between male and female ischemic patients and among different occupations.3. Married ischemic heart patients were significantly more satisfied with their life style than widowed ischemic heart patients.4. There was a curvilinear relationship between self concept and life style satisfaction, as well as a curvilinear relationship between self concept and life style satisfaction when controlling for selected background variables. As life style satisfaction decreased below the minimum, there was an increase in self concept, and then the life style satisfaction increased, the self concept did increase.5. The 37.2 percent of variance in life style satisfaction was explaine by 5 predictors which included a square of self concept, self concept, education, duration of disease, and age.
