Abstract:
The research aims to find the way to reduce transportation cost by using forecast technique to the container transport demand per day and line balancing method to the route adjustment for the Jamlong Petrochemical Company. The problem revealed that there were four on-going trips but only one trip is fully loaded on the way back and one trip is empty. The remaining trips were empty on the way back between Rayong Plant and Leamchabang Port.In this study, four forecasting container demand techniques were used: 1) Standard average, 2) group average by using hstorical data, 3) group average by current data and 4) Monte Carlo simulation. It can be concluded that results from group average using historical and current data are more or less the same as the result from Monte Carlo technique which gives the mean absolute percent error 0.021 and 0.031. The results from the standard average relatively deviate from the others techniques which five the mean absolute percent error with negative values 0.25 and 0.25.The results have shown that the improvement of transport operation can obtained by: 1. Reducing the transport operating cost 16,019,055 Baht/Year.2. Reducing the distance per trip 108 kilometers or 49 percent.3. Reducing the empty running kilometers from 123 to 7 km. or 94% reduction.
