Abstract:
An efficient managment is a necessary condition for the operation of a good warehouse and distribution center. To check the management system, we need to have a key performance index (KPI). The key performance index will make us clear whether or not the system is being operated efficinetly. If the index and data collection are not suitable or not be interrelated with the system, the result of KPI's evaluation will be meaningless. In effect, they can lead to misdetermination and losses for organization. The purpose of this study was to determine the effective KPI's for warehouse and distribution center operation based on the quality requirements of ISO 9001: 2000. The procedure for determining the KPI' s was proposed to follow a 4-step plan (Plan- Do- Check- Action) of Deming circle. In addition, a formula and suggestion for each KPi was also provided. The procedure was compared with an operation of a warehouse and a distribution center of a sample organiztion. The result shows that the procedure proposed in this study was applicable in the oranization being used as a case. Therefore, it should be appropriate to use it in determining and evaluating KPI' s for warehouses and distribution centers in general.
