An investigation of the opinions of teachers, administrators, and supervisors in Bangkok metropolis about the implementation of life experiences group for prathomsuksa five in the 2521 elementary school curriculum
Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to survey and compare the opinions of teachers, administrators, supervisors toward the B.E. 2521 Elementary School Curriculum in the Life Experiences Group for Prathomsuksa Five in the areas of Objectives, Contensts, Methodology, Evaluation, and Curriculum Implementation.The sample for this study included 156 Life Experiences teachers, 84 administrators and 12 supervisors of the Bangkok Metropolis. The schools were categorized according to sizes:big, medium and small. The questionnaire was used in this study.The findings revealed that the Life Experiences Group in Elementary School Curriculum in the Life Experiences Group in the areas of Objectives, Contents, Methodology, Evaluation, and Curriculum Implementation were moderately effective. In addition, the opinions of the administrators and the supervisors toward the Elementary School Curriculum in the stated five areas were that it was quite appropriate. Hoerver, it is also noticeable that, in the area of Objectives, the teachers thought that its applications were ineffective in the follwing topics : religions, energy and chemical substances, universe and space, and neighboring countries. In the area of Contents, the administrators and the supervisors considered that those about skills in scientific prodedures, group formation and cooperative, and neighboring countries were not in agreement with the daily life and the condition of the present society. In the area of Methodology, the teachers, the administrators, and the supervisors viewed that the amount of learning-teaching activities was not in proportion to the duration of time alloted. It was also found out that, in the area of Evaluation, the teachers lacked understanding in the use of the evaluation forms. Finally, in the area of Curriculum Implementation, they all considered that the schools did not get enough supplementary bookds and budgets to serve their needs.When comparing the opinions of the teachers, the administrators and the supervisors, it was found out that their opinions were significantly different at the level of .01 ; however, those of the administrators and the supervisors were at the higher level than the teachers'. Futhermore, it is also notable that the teachers' attitudes toward the area of Objectives were obviously different from those of the administrators in all aspects. In the area of Contents, the teachers' opinions were mostly different from the administrators' and the supervisors' in the aspect of the appropriateness of the contents for the maturity of the learners. It was also revealed that, in the area of Methodology, the teachers' points of view were mostly different from those of the administrators and the supervisors in the following aspects : the relation between learning-teaching activities and the learners' interest, and the relevance of learning-teaching activities to the ages of the learners. In the area of Evaluation, the teachers' opinions obviously differed from the administrators' and the supervisors' in almost all aspects except the importance of evaluation by means of testing the basic educational background. Lastly, those which were completely different in the area of Curriculum Implementation are the supply and the demand of educational media, and the regularity of the supply and the demand of supervision.
