Abstract:
The purposes of this study to investigate how the engine room simulator affects the efficiency and learning skills of the merchant marine cadets, and to find the guidelines for the engine seafarer development. Two groups of the merchant marine cadets were interviewed; the first consisted of 40 cadets who have used the engine room simulator and the second group consisted of 5th class of engine cadets 30 cadets who have never used the engine room simulator (4th class of engine cadets). The Chi-Square test was used as the statistical device.The results showed the engine room simulator had the affect on the efficiency and learning skills of Merchant Marine Cadets (MMC). According to the study of the Pearson Chi-Square program, it indicated that the value of the relationship between the practical program and English skills was 40 points, 27.60 points was for the relationship between the confidence of operator and operation on board ship, and 48.88 points was the highest value in the group of sample. It means that the engine room simulator significantly affects to the learning outcomes of the marine machinery piping system for MMC.
