Abstract:
The purposes of this research were to analyse academic library web sites in Thailand in terms of types of services and techniques, to compare five groups of academic library web sites including 1) government universities 2) Rajabhat institutes 3) Rajabhat Institutes 3) Rajamangala Institutes of Technology 4) private univesities and 5) private colleges, and also to study problems of academic library web sites development. The population used were 99 academic library web sites and 99 webmasters. The instrument used for data analysis were data recorded form and questionnaires. The statistics used were frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation.The results were as follows:1. The services that most academic library web sites offered were web OPAC, news and events, new media recommendation, and announcement, respectively, while video on demand, Thai e-journals, e-book, web-based tutorial, and download software were offered the least respectively. The techniques that most academic library web sites used were presentation in English language, formation, graphic, icon links, and line links, respectively, while image maps, multimedia, and frame were used the least respectively.2. Among academic library web sites, web sites that had most types services were government universities, Rajabhat Institutes, private universities, Rajamangala Instututes of Technology, and private colleges, respectively. Web sites that used most techniques were government universities, Rajabhat Institutes, private universities, Rajamangala Institutes of Technology, and private colleges, respectively.3. Most academic library web sites had problems in development in average at the medium level. Main problems were lacking personnels for developing web sites in terms of techniques and contents, inefficiency of network, insufficient budget for purchasing copy-righted softwares, and lacking of plan of develop web wites, respectively, while lacking of support from directors was the least.
