Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to determine and compare teaching behaviors of Life Experiences of Prathomsuksa-Six teachers in primary schools under the Office of Chachoengsao Provincial Primary Education where the students' achievement was above the norm with those below the norm.The sample in the study included thirty Prathomsuksa-Six teachers who taught Life Experiences in primary schools under the Office of Chachoengsao Provincial Primary Education in the academic year of 1989.The instrument used in this study was an observation form with items on teaching behaviors of Life Experiences.Percentages, means, variances and t-test scores were used in the analysis of data.The findings of this study were summarized as follows :1. In the area of teaching prepaation, the teachers had students prepare their lessons in advance at a high level; Whereas spare flexible teaching - learning activities were prepared at the lowest level.2. In the area of teaching - learning activities, teachers most encouraged their students with questions so that the latter might express their opinions and grasp the comcepts whereas the teachers least emphasized thinking processes, scientific mithods and skills thereof.3. In the area of utilization of instructional media, teaching behaviors were performed at a high level; that is the teachers used instructional media suitable for students'ages, found it convenient to use instructional media as teaching aids and used them skillfully. That the students took part in maintaining instructional media, the teachers used instructional media in deriving conclusions and the teachers utilized educational resources in community were observed to be performed at the lowest level.4. In the area of measurement and evaluation, students were questioned in classes and their progresses were tested at the close of the chapters, whereas the teachers did least in closely checking and following up students' performances, or giving their students advice and assistance.5. The comparison of teaching behaviors of teachers in schools where students' acadamic achievement in Life Experiences was above the norm with those below the norm revealed that performances of teachers in schools with students' acadamic achievement above the norm were significantly superior to those of teachers in schools with students' academic achievement below the norm at .05 level in the areas of teaching preparation, teaching - learning activities, and utilization of instructional media. No significant difference of teachers' performances in the area of measurement and evaluation was revealed.
