Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to identify the defintion and the nurses' experiences in cardiopulmonary resuscition (CPR).The resuscotation process, in this study, began with admission of patient with respiratory and/or cardiac arrest and ended up when the nurses stopped their resuscitation procedure. The qualitative method with focus group and indepth interview technique was applied to gather relevant information from twelve informants. The major research findings were first the resuscitation was defined in five dimensions which were1 physical dimension which referred to the change of patients' physica; state from the respirtory and/or cardiac arrest state or from dyspnea and/or arrythmia to a normal state.2 Physiological dimension aimed to supply blod with sufficient oxygen to the patients' brain and to prevent patients from any possible complications of CPR 3 Value of CPR which to the results of CPR which positively affect patients. their relatives, nurses and nurses'oganization 4 CPR procedural process in basic and advance processes and 5 the effciency of CPR practice which referred to right time, right proedure, adn right practice without complications. The second research finding was nurses' experiences in CPR covering the patients' admission,CPR practicing, and discharging from the emergency department.Nurses experienced could be eategorized into five aspects as follows:1 physical examination and assessment with and without medical equipments 2 techical experiences from senior nurses 3 management process when CPR is accomplished successfully and unsucdessfully 4 the awaeness of related conditions affecting CPR such as personal factors including patients rescuers and CPR team environmental factors including time place, equipments; and duration of CPR practice, and 5 nurses' psychological impact which were emotional which were emotional feeling and learning experiences from CPR practicing. The recommendations were nurses responsible for CPR should aware of the significance of giving meaning to the CPR and to nurses' experiences in CPR in order to attain or even echance the standard of emergency nurses' performances. The medication and medical equipments schuld be provided sufficicntly. To maintain nurses'skills in CPR,the relevant training shoul be given to the emergency murses. Moreover, the legal protection for nurses practicing CPR should be considered.Basic CPR knowledge and skills should be provided to the public. Therefore, peopel would be able to rescue patient with respiratory and/or cardiac arrest in an emergency situation.
