Achievement and Metacognition of Scientists in Department of Agriculture Who Learned from Knowledge Management Blog

Abstract: The purposes of this research were to develop knowledge management blog and to study achievement and metacognition of the individuals who learned from rubber industry knowledge management blog. The process of knowledge management blog development involved committee formation, organization needs identification, blogger teams setting, topics identification, and blog completion. The sample consisted of 35 scientists of department of agriculture. They learned from the blog by themselves in 3 days. Web based testings were used for data collection. The results showed that the mean of metacognition was 56.77 from a total of 100. Knowledge gained from the pretest and posttest scores was achieved. The posttest mean score (18.66) was higher than the pretest mean score (14.17). The components of metacogntion were awareness, cognitive strategy, planning, and self-checking. The analysis revealed that awareness and self-checking were at the moderate level but cognitive strategy and planning were at the less level. As for hypothesis testing, it was found that metacognition was significantly related to achievement score at the .01 level. The whole components of metacognition were also significantly related to achievement score at the .01 level. Lessons learned from rubber industry knowledge management blog were that the learners could succeed in gaining new knowledge of rubber industry and accept the content of the blog. The results that did not match the objectives were low perception, confusion, lack of effort, and incomplete content. The important problems were inadequate time for learning and lack of attention.
