Abstract:
This research is intended to study needs of in-service teachers in Surin and Sisaket provinces in educational information from the mass media (radio and television programmes). To find out their needs in this matter, questionnaires were sent to be filed out by some 1280 teachers working in these two provinces.
It is found that on the weekdays the teachers preferably watch the television programmes 8 to 10 oclock pm. During which they are free and relax while on the weekenddays they prefer to watch television at between 6 to 8 and 10 pm.
Their favourite programmes are news and entertainments. Those teachers prefer to watch the said programmes on the reason that the and entertainment programmes are informative, entertaining and also keep the viewers abreast of the world situations.
To meet their needs about the educational information, the teachers want the TV managements to present the programmes that can give the viewers knowledge such as the documentaries about occupations languages and literatures.
On the radio pragrammes, it is found that on the weekdays as well as the weekendays most teachers preferably listen to the radio at around 7 am. Before they go to work at their respective shcools. The radio programme the teachers widely hear is the news. They also said that the political programmes on the radio are the most informative because they can help the listeners understand politics better and, in turn, the knowledge gained from these programmes can be indoctrinated to their students in the classrooms.
On the use gained from listening to the radio programmed, the teachers in this two provinces said that the variety of programmes on the radio can prevent them getting bored and keep them well-informed at the same time make them entertained.
On the contens fo the programmes, the teachers want more informative programmes useful to their teaching-learning activitiesand the ones that inform of the rural events.
On the from of the radio and television programmes, the teachers want to see and hear the programmes in the from of systematic demonstration or in the from off disscusstion that allows the audiences to participate in expressing their opinions freely.
