Abstract:
The purpose of this research is to study mass media\'s roles towards learning and teaching Social Studies Program in a bachelor degree level in all teachers colleges located in northeastern Thailand. The sample, 489 in all, consisted of 74 lecturers who taught. Social Studies in the academic year 1992 and some 489 Social Studies majors doing their BA in the academic year 1992 in Nalornrajima Burirum Surin Ubonrajthani Mahasarakam Loei Sakonnakorn and Udornthani teachers Colleges. Data collecting tools are questionnaires. The collected data are analized by means of stafistics to find out their percentage, mathematic mean, standard satistics to find out their percentage, mathematic mean, standard inviation and
t-test.
According to the findings, the lecturers in Social Studies subject agreed that newspapers were used most for teaching this subject, while magazines and periodicals were most helpfuk for arranging informative exhibitions. The students, on the other hand, accepted that the mass media used most were slides and the media most suitable for learning and teaching Social Studies were documentary films.
Both lecturers and students found that those mass media such as radios, tape-recorders, TV, video-ercprders, movies, newspaper, magazines and other printed matter were from time to used in learning-teaching activities.
The lecturers accepted that these mass media are useful tools in teaching such subjects as Current world Events, Natural Resource Conservation, Man and Environments because all these above-mentioned mass media kapt them abreast of the everchanging workd situations. Most annoying problems and obstacles, however,in bringing the media to use still remain, that is, there is a discouraging shortage of building and audio-visual equipment. The study also showed that there insignificant differences in opinion between male and female lecturers in Social Studies subjects.
The Social Studies majors found that the mass media were very useful to their learning activites because they could be applied to their daily life use. Some could keep them well-informed of the world events and also changed their attitudes positively. Based on the study,it can be concluded that the regular students and in-service students had insignificant difference in opion about this subject.
