Abstract:
The purposes of the research were to study current practices and problems of personnel development as perceived by teachers. The populations were 328 teachers of Chinese language teaching private elementary schools in Bangkok Metropolis. The research instrument was a checklist questionnaire. The usable returned questionnaire copies were 264 or 80.48 percent. Data were analyzed by using frequency distribution and percentage.The results indicated that teachers were aware of Chinese language teaching private elementary schools in Bangkok Metropolis employed various methods of personnel development. Most popular methods used were continuing study. Methods often used were as follows: seminar, training, orientation, workshop, field-trip, job instruction, encouragement of academic writing, and publication of academic writing respectively. Problems mostly found were as follows: insufficient budget for orientation, training, and academic information; lack of budget for continuing study, lack of skilled personnel for seminars and workshop; to much expense for field study, and disencouraging high standard for academic promotion.
