Abstract:
This study was to analyzed water uses in Huai Luang reservoir in order to define appropriate irrigation area for dry season according to reservoir storage at the end of rainy season using Dry Season Area Reduction Curve, DSAR. The analysis may assist to avoid water storage in long term periods.DSAR curve were generated by WUSMO Version 5.0 program. The analysis composed of 3 scenarios: case I at present reservoir storage, case II by increasing reservoir storage and case III by increasing reservoir storage and improvement of water delivery system. The analysis for each scenairo allowed water shortage at 15 percent, 20 percent and 25 percent for 29 years interval (1970-1998). Results showed that the water shortage at 10 percent was the most appropriate level for present reservoir storage since the target irrigation area was the closest to real irrigation area. This level of shortage was later applied for scenarios II and III given irrigation area to increase by 54 percent and 130, respectively. The analysis of side flow for both left and right main canals indicated that Gumbel distribution was fit with the flow at probability of 70 percent. Results from this study showed the ability of Huai Luang reservoir to deliver water in various situations. The important factors to consider n planning are reservoir storage at the end of rainy season, quantity of side flow, farmer's agricultural practice and risk of water shortage. These factors may assist in project planning in order to receive the highest benefit and effectiveness.
